As a digital marketing tool, TikTok is much less sophisticated than Instagram, though this fact is countered by the platform’s considerable ability to spread content quickly and effectively. If you’re looking to try an influencer-focused marketing strategy, TikTok becomes an obvious choice. 

Which is Best For You? 

From a small business perspective, this would certainly depend on the type of product, brand, or service you’re looking to market. 

For a structured, sophisticated approach, Instagram is a fantastic platform with integrated storefront tools and a robust infrastructure that makes it easy for businesses to market products with a strong visual presence. 

Conversely, TikTok is much more basic, with a more limited toolset for driving sales, though this can be worked around somewhat. However, the real advantage of TikTok is its user base – with an average user age of between 16-24, TikTok is ideally suited to products and services to engage younger audiences. 

The app’s scale is also considerable, with a fast-growing market that spreads content faster than any other platform, making it the easy choice for businesses looking to quickly generate greater brand awareness.
